Game viewing and safari activities are where Khwai really delivers and why it is one of Botswana’s most popularly sought-after wildlife regions. The Khwai River, which acts as the border between Moremi Game Reserve and the Khwai Community Concession is a magnet for free-roaming wildlife, especially during the dry season when it offers plenty of water and opportunities for food for both predator and prey. The beauty of this particular location is that guests can benefit from the exclusivity of the concession and enjoy the greater ecosystem on full-day safaris into Moremi.
Game activities and drives in Khwai are conducted twice a day in modified 4x4 Land Cruisers, each seating 10 guests under a canvas roof for shade. Morning drives depart before sunrise and typically last 3-4 hours, including a coffee stop en route. Afternoon game drives depart at about 4pm and can continue past sunset into the night, also

A mokoro safari in Botswana offers a tranquil and intimate way to explore the waterways of the Okavango Delta. A mokoro is a traditional dugout canoe, expertly navigated by a local guide using a long pole to gently glide through the shallow channels. As you silently drift through the water, you'll have the chance to observe wildlife up close, such as elephants, hippos, birds, and aquatic life, all in their natural habitat. This unique experience provides an unparalleled connection to the Delta’s serene beauty and abundant ecosystem.
Night drives bring about a whole different game drive experience, and this is a special privilege of a private concession. Guests can book a night drive with a guide and enjoy seeing Khwai by spotlight. Predator movements increase at night, and the activity of nocturnal animals like bush babies, genets, porcupines, honey badgers, and owls brings a new element to the wildlife experience.
The Mukwa Mini Bar brings a unique addition to a sundowner experience. Conceptualised and created by African Excursions owner, Sammy, this mobile bar can be transported and set up at a sundowner location in the concession. Stocked with drinks of choice and designed to bring a fun, bush-bar element to sundowner sessions – the Mukwa Mini Bar is unique!

Every game drive is unique, which keeps things interesting, although the format of a game drive is likely to remain the same no matter where you go. Early mornings, late afternoons, or late at night are normally the coldest periods of the day, when most animals are most active. Game drives usually 3 to 4 hours and include a break, depending on the duration and distance. With luck, you’ll encounter a variety of wildlife species, with opportunities to observe and photograph each one.
Children of all ages are allowed on game drive. However only children aged 12 and over are allowed on walking safaris and mokoro excursions
